Kim Thunder is a South African based photographer who specialises in food, lifestyle, people, industrial and travel photography. He is equally at home in his fully equipped studio near the east coast city of Durban as he is on location shoots.

His passion for photography has taken him on assignments to New York, Mauritius, Tanzania, Switzerland, 10 African countries and to Finland within the Arctic Circle.

In 1989 he qualified with a national diploma in photography and he has been freelancing ever since, with a client base as large as it is diverse, including advertising agencies, magazines, corporate and private clients. His work has appeared in publications the world over, as well as campaigns in Europe and South Africa for the likes of Unilever and American Cola. He has photographed various books including a bestselling coffee table book called 'A Sense of Space'.

One of his career highlights was a commission to photograph Nelson Mandela.

Although he is based in South Africa he will travel anywhere to capture your images.

Kim offers various photographic courses, from a beginners course to more advanced courses such as his 'Art of light' course. He also runs photographic adventure workshops over weekends in the Drakensberg mountains, Kosi bay, Zululand and Mozambique. The course dates are set throughout the year and they are constant. The beginner course teaches you to use your DSLR camera correctly. It is not a Photo Shop course and the main aim is to get you to learn how to get the best out of your camera, and yourself. You will learn about apertures, (F/stops), shutter speeds the various effects thereof, film speed/ISO, lens selection, action photography, motion blur, night photography, painting with light, white balance and much more.The course runs over a 4 week period with 4 night classes and a Saturday practical.

The 'art of light' course is a very practically orientated course centered around the use of natural light, flash, reflector use, mixed lighting, 'synchro sun' flash photography, long exposure techniques with flash, sunrise and sunset shoots and basic studio lighting.Kim creates photo shoots on the beach, in factories, in the veld etc. both day and night. This is a fun filled course for the photographer who has completed the beginners course. The photographic adventure workshops vary in terms of dates and destination.
